The contract is four pages long and covers everything except the parts that matter. Ana needs a visa; Daniel needs an heir his mother will stop asking about; neither of them needs to like the other. They agree on separate bedrooms, separate lives, and a clean exit in twenty-four months. It holds for eleven weeks. Then Daniel's grandmother moves in, the press finds the wedding photos, and Ana discovers that the man who signed her paperwork keeps a drawer of things he has never explained. Renegotiation is not in the contract.
